Ay illuminate wurde von Casper und Ay Lin Heinen mitbegründet. Zu ihnen gesellte sich der Designer Nelson Sepulveda und das Trio gründete die Beleuchtungsmarke, die Kunsthandwerker in ihrer Arbeit unterstützt eigene, oft kämpfende Gemeinschaften; und produziert dabei lässig-elegante und sehr einzigartige Leuchten.
Verantwortung, Ernährung, Ermächtigung, Magie und handwerklicher Stolz sind die Hauptwerte, die das Unternehmen antreiben.
Als sie feststellten, dass anspruchsvolle Kunden die von ihnen geschätzten handgefertigten Objekte wertschätzten, nahmen sie sich die Zeit, zu besprechen, wie sie vorgehen wollten, indem sie sich fragten: „Lassen wir uns vom Markt treiben oder entscheiden wir uns für eine?“ Kohärente Mission?“ Sie entschieden sich dafür, möglichst authentisch mit Handwerkern zusammenzuarbeiten und ihren ökologischen Fußabdruck so gering wie möglich zu halten.
