Northern wurde 2005 in Oslo, Norwegen, gegründet. Am Anfang etablierte sich die Marke als kleines, dynamisches Unternehmen, das sich auf die Entwicklung und Herstellung von Leuchten spezialisierte. Im Jahr 2018 änderte die Marke jedoch ihren Namen von „Northern Lighting“ in „Northern“ und erweiterte ihre Produktpalette um Haushaltsaccessoires und Möbel, die in der skandinavischen Designtradition verwurzelt sind. Northern kreiert Designstücke für verschiedene Innenräume, die von der einzigartigen nordischen Natur, Kultur und Gesellschaft inspiriert sind.
